PPO/PPE alloy compatibilizer


Description

Fine-Blend® FB820 is a maleic anhydride grafted polymer. The base polymer is polyphenyl ether , and it has yellow or brown particle appearance.


Applications

Fine-Blend® FB820 can develop a reliable bonding strength between PPO/PA, PPO/HIPS, PPO/HIPS/PA alloys, improve the compatibility and dispersion between different components effectively. It is especially suitable for improving the compatibility of reinforced PPO/PA, PPO/HIPS, PPO/HIPS/PA alloys, including tensile strength, impact strength and HDT.

Case 2: Fine-Blend® FB820 used in PPO / PA66 system

As shown in Table 2, with the increase of FB820, the tensile strength and elongation at break of the alloy system increase obviously, but the bending strength and bending modulus are not affected.

It can be seen from Figure 2 that the size of PPO phase in the alloy system without compatibilizer is very large and irregular, showing a typical Bi continuous phase structure. When the content of FB820 is 3wt%, the size of PPO dispersed phase decreases obviously, and the size is mainly distributed between 2-6 μ m, which is round and uniform. When the content of FB820 is 5wt%, the size of PPO dispersed phase further decreases, and the size distribution is mainly between 1-5 μ M.

It can be seen that with the increase of FB820, the tensile strength, elongation at break and bending strength of PPO / PA66 / GF system increase obviously, and the bending modulus has little effect.

Because PA66 is a typical polar material with functional groups that can react with glass fiber surface, coupling agent is usually not needed for PA66 reinforced by glass fiber. It can be seen from the left figure that the matrix resin and glass fiber have certain compatibility in PPO / PA66 / GF system without FB820. 

When FB820 content is 3wt% and 5wt%, the surface of glass fiber is rougher and the coating amount of matrix resin is increased, which indicates that the compatibility between glass fiber and matrix resin is further improved.

This indicates that the addition of FB820 can further improve the compatibility between glass fiber and matrix resin in PPO / PA66 / GF system.
