Recent Progress in Compounding Technology using Twin Screw Extruders
Extrusion using a twin screw extruder has been playing very important roles in polymer processing as one of the basic processing technologies for producing various compounds used for car parts and electric appliances, for example. Recent twin screw extrusion technology pursues the precise control of the diversified morphology/structure of polymer alloys and polymer composites to create newly functionalized polymers with very sophisticated properties, as well as drastic productivity improvement and efficient energy consumption. In this speech, recent technological progresses in twin screw compounding extrusion including new compatibilizing procedures are reviewed and discussed the future development directions from the points of machine design and process control.
